Life-Saving Knowledge: These procedures are based on real emergency protocols that save lives.
Immediate Response (0-15 seconds)
Critical: Every second counts during fire emergencies
- Stop all activity immediately
- Listen for alarm type and announcements
- Alert others who may not have heard
- Move toward nearest exit (no elevators!)
Choose Your Route (15-30 seconds)
Route Priority:
- Primary: Nearest designated exit
- Secondary: Next nearest if blocked
- Emergency: Any safe exit available
Never attempt blocked or dangerous routes Move Efficiently (30 seconds - 3 minutes)
- Walk quickly but donโt run
- Stay right in hallways and stairwells
- Help others without stopping traffic
- Stay low if smoke is present
- Test doors before opening (hot = find alternate)
Reach Safety (3-5 minutes)
- Exit building completely
- Move 150+ feet from building
- Go to assembly point immediately
- Find your group and report missing persons
From Admin Area (100-110):
- Primary: Main entrance โ Assembly Alpha
- Secondary: Cafeteria exit โ Assembly Bravo
From Cafeteria (111-120):
- Primary: Cafeteria exit โ Assembly Bravo
- Secondary: Main entrance โ Assembly Alpha
From Gymnasium (121-130):
- Primary: Gym exit โ Assembly Charlie
- Secondary: Main entrance โ Assembly Alpha
From East Wing (201-210):
- Primary: East stairwell โ Cafeteria exit โ Assembly Bravo
- Secondary: Central stairwell โ Main entrance โ Assembly Alpha
From Central Wing (211-220):
- Primary: Central stairwell โ Main entrance โ Assembly Alpha
- Secondary: East/West stairwell โ Respective exits
From Library (221-230):
- Primary: Library emergency exit โ North assembly
- Secondary: East stairwell โ Cafeteria exit โ Assembly Bravo
From Academic Wing (301-310):
- Primary: Central stairwell โ Main entrance โ Assembly Alpha
- Secondary: East stairwell โ Cafeteria exit โ Assembly Bravo
From Arts Wing (311-320):
- Primary: West stairwell โ Gym exit โ Assembly Charlie
- Secondary: Central stairwell โ Main entrance โ Assembly Alpha
From Auditorium (321-325):
- Primary: Main stairwell โ Main entrance โ Assembly Alpha
- Emergency: Stage exit โ Fire escape โ Athletic field
When to Evacuate
Evacuate When:
- Fire alarm sounds (even during lockdown)
- Specifically instructed by law enforcement
- Your safe room is compromised
- Directed by emergency responders
When to Stay in Lockdown
Stay When:
- No specific evacuation order
- Uncertain about threat location
- Safe room is secure and concealed
- Moving would expose you to danger
Fire Priority: If fire alarm sounds during lockdown, evacuate immediately - fire takes priority
Wheelchair Users:
- Use ramps and accessible exits only
- Never attempt stairs without assistance
- Staff will provide evacuation assistance
- Emergency evacuation chairs in stairwells
Hearing Impaired:
- Visual alarm systems throughout building
- Staff trained in basic sign language
- Buddy system for emergency communication
Vision Impaired:
- Audio systems with voice instructions
- Staff assistance for navigation
- Service animals remain with individuals
Medical Needs:
- Nurseโs office serves as medical staging
- Emergency medical supplies available
- Priority evacuation for life-threatening conditions
- Direct communication with emergency services
